City Limits seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as our Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be passionate about New York and well acquainted with the issues of housing and homelessness. This person must believe in the role of journalism in a democratic society, possess strong organizational skills, networking ability, and have a track record of building successful programs. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees of City Limits.

With its headquarters in Harlem on West 126th Street, New York, City Limits has a staff of 8 and an annual operating budget of approximately $1 million.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and execute a strategy for City Limits to meet our goals of diversifying and growing funding, expanding content, increasing audience and deepening impact.
Serve as the public face of the organization at public events, conferences and in the media to enhance our visibility and influence.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including individual donors, partners, and the broader community.
Establish and execute a comprehensive major gifts strategy. Launch and manage major donor circles. Proactively cultivate high net worth individuals.

Financial Management:

Oversee the financial health of the organization, including budgeting, fundraising, and resource allocation.
Identify and pursue diverse funding opportunities, including major gifts , grants and sponsorships. Manage our annual fundraising gala each fall.

Editorial Development:

Work closely with the editorial team to develop and implement impactful journalism programs.
Explore opportunities for collaboration and partnerships to enhance the reach and impact of our reporting.

Staff Development:

Recruit, mentor, and motivate a diverse and talented team of professionals.
Provide guidance and support to foster continuous professional development among staff members.

Qualifications:

Deep experience or connection with historically underserved communities.
Proven experience in a leadership role within the media, journalism or housing, homelessness or community development sectors.
Strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising and board relations.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Passion for journalistic integrity, transparency, and the role of media in society.
