Laura Frank is President and General Manager of News and Content at Rocky Mountain PBS. Laura was the founder of I-News, the nonprofit investigative news organization that merged with Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting in 2013.

INN launches Amplify news-sharing pilot; Sherry Skalko to direct

CHICAGO — June 29, 2017 — The Institute for Nonprofit News, an incubator and support network for nonprofit newsrooms  with 120+ members organizations across the U.S., is launching Amplify News -- a news distribution, placement and partnership hub to expand the reach and impact of news coverage from Midwestern communities. The Amplify News Midwest pilot will test how  a shared collaboration and distribution hub can help grassroots newsrooms at the local and regional level collaborate and leverage today’s complex digital distribution channels to bring their news reporting to more people. The project is funded by generous grants from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and The Joyce Foundation. The project will be directed by Sherry Skalko, a digital news leader with a record of creating and leveraging quality journalism to drive growth for news outlets, nonprofit organizations and niche publications. She specializes in using technology and data to shape editorial content, audience development and monetization.

Laura Frank to Chair INN Board of Directors

Directors of the Institute for Nonprofit News have elected Laura Frank, president and general manager of news at Rocky Mountain PBS, as board chair for the nationwide network of investigative and public service news organizations.

OpenSecrets’ Krumholz Elected to INN Board

LOS ANGELES — June 26, 2017 — Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the center for Responsive Politics and its OpenSecrets.org web site, is joining the Institute for Nonprofit News board of directors as one of three directors elected at INN’s annual meeting. Along with Krumholz, INN member news organizations re-elected Laura Frank, president and general manager of news and content at Rocky Mountain PBS and Anne Galloway, editor of VTDigger and the executive director of the Vermont Journalism Trust. Each will serve a two-year term on the 11-person INN board. As executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, Krumholz heads a non-partisan, independent organization that tracks money in politics and its effect on elections and public policy. The Center’s award-winning website, OpenSecrets.org is a comprehensive resource for campaign finance and lobbying data, used by informed citizens, journalists, researchers and others.

Smith to head INN Labs

News technologist Julia Smith will lead product development and technology services for the Institute for Nonprofit News as director of INN Labs.
