SUMMARY:The Divide Between Journalists & Fundraising Staffers: How to Close the Rift
DESCRIPTION:Journalists and development staff both serve undeniably critical roles in nonprofit news organizations. Journalists are so often principled\, ethically-minded and dedicated to the trade. Development staff tend to be goal-oriented\, task-focused and driven by mission. All of these characteristics sound like organizational assets\, but many nonprofit news organizations continue to struggle with ongoing conflict between the two departments. \nIn this panel discussion\, join the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) and Report for America (RFA) to learn from organizations who have worked to bridge this all-to-common divide. We all aim for organizations that function more effectively\, and this session will take you one step closer to making it a reality. \nHear from the following speakers: \nCeline Piser\, Chief Philanthropy Officer\, The Intercept \nCarson Walker\, CEO\, South Dakota News Watch \nShalini Malaki\, Senior Manager of Institutional Giving\, The Baltimore Banner \nMorgan Baum\, VP Local News Sustainability at Report for America\, and Stephanie Schenkel\, Network Philanthropy Director at INN will be moderating this conversation.

SUMMARY:Leveraging Pods Data for Organizational Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how your newsroom is doing compared to your peers? Not sure how to use data to inform your strategic planning? Curious how to better use data to engage funders? Well\, we are here to help! \nEvery year INN leverages Index survey data to group members into Pods and provide benchmarking data across revenue and expenses\, audience and distribution\, and staffing. This data can be used to support strategic planning\, goal setting\, and fundraising. However\, we know that members don’t always have the time or capacity to integrate this data into their organizational practices. \nPlease join us for a webinar on Wednesday\, September 30\, 2026 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. EST to discuss how INN newsrooms are using Pods benchmarking data to help in organizational planning\, budgeting\, reporting\, and fundraising. We are joined by three members who have championed Pods benchmarking data within their organization. Panelists will share their experiences using Pods data\, followed by an engaging question and answer session. \nPanelists include: \nHa Ta\, Researcher\, INN \nLean Camara\, CEO\, The New Bedford Light \nCorinne Colbert\, Co Founder and Editor in Chief\, Athens County Independent \nBethanie Glaser\, Vice President\, Strategy & Operations\, Civic News Company

SUMMARY:How Suncoast Searchlight leverages AI to support its community fact-checking
DESCRIPTION:Public officials make claims every day in commission meetings\, press conferences\, campaign ads\, and interviews. Most of them go unchecked simply because no newsroom has the time to comb through hours of audio and video looking for something worth verifying. Suncoast Searchlight has found a way to close that gap. \nJoin Gigafact and Suncoast Searchlight for a conversation about how Suncoast Searchlight built its Fact Brief program (short\, yes-or-no fact checks of questions their community is actually asking) and how the newsroom has used AI tools to maximize its impact. \nIn this session\, you’ll learn: \n• How Suncoast Searchlight structures its Fact Brief program\, from sourcing questions to publishing 100-150 word answers readers can trust\n• How Suncoast identifies and tracks claims made by public officials\, and how to build watchlists for the politicians and issues that matter most to your coverage area\n• Background information on Gigafact\, Fact Briefs\, and if the program might be a good fit for your team \nSpeakers:\nEmily Le Coz\, Executive Editor-in-chief\, Suncoast Searchlight\nRobyn Sundlee\, VP of Programs / Co-founder\, Gigafact

SUMMARY:Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival 2026 has just announced the lineup of its inaugural Double Exposure Forum\, a place for audiences to meet the investigative journalists and filmmakers behind the headlines and to learn about the big issues animating investigative reporting in print and film. The festival’s 12th season runs Nov. 5-8 in Washington\, D.C. \n  \nThe DX Forum features two days of panels and workshops hinging on a single idea: that the right to hold government accountable belongs to every one of us\, not just to those with press credentials. Panels and workshops unpack how these rights operate on the ground and what kinds of risks they carry; how to evaluate images and viral news for truth and authenticity; open-source investigations\, citizen journalism\, and more. \n  \nThis year’s Forum is as much for those who work in the media as it is for audiences who have felt the ground shift under what they thought they knew\, and want to understand why. \n  \nPlease join DX Fest by purchasing a pass today. INN members receive an exclusive 10% discount code. Email news@inn.org to receive this.
