inewsource, an investigative news nonprofit in San Diego, is adding a reporter to its government accountability team. Don’t let San Diego’s reputation for beauty and year-round great weather fool you. There are vast news deserts here and plenty to probe.
The mission for reporters at inewsource is to aggressively pursue stories that can change laws, improve lives and generally benefit the community. That could be everything from failures in the criminal justice system to misuse of tax dollars by a school official to poor regulation of immigrant detention facilities. If you want to report stories that have measurable impact, this would be the job for you.
The right candidate is curious and fearless. Also well-versed in writing FOIAs, developing sources and appreciating how data can make investigations precise and bullet-proof. We’re looking for compelling writers. Our stories are distributed widely across the web, TV and radio, so broadcast experience is a plus but not a must. We’ll be happy to mentor you.
Interested applicants should send a resumé, cover letter and three samples of your work to Managing Editor Laura Wingard: email@example.com
