News Editor, Science News

Clear and credible science journalism is more important than ever. Science News is committed to delivering readers the latest advances from across the scientific frontiers. To do so, we are seeking to hire a news editor to fulfill a key role in our digital news team.

The News Editor works closely with the News Director and other editors to plan daily news coverage and maintain a fast-paced flow of digital-first content. Primary responsibilities involve working with staff and freelance writers to assign and edit news on deadline for content, style and grammar, and collaborating with the Design and Web teams to develop compelling visuals. The News Editor also works closely with writers and the Web Team to tell stories on our digital and social platforms. The News Editor must keep current on news events, with an eye to finding stories that explain the science behind topics of wide public interest, as well as news of the latest scientific findings. The editor has the ability to handle stories in a wide range of styles and scientific disciplines, such as cell biology, human evolution, particle physics and climate change.

You’ll be joining a group of creative, inquisitive people who come to science journalism from a diversity of backgrounds, education and experience. We’re constantly experimenting to better serve our millions of readers in print and online, while also remaining true to our mission as independent nonprofit journalists.
