The Texas Tribune is seeking an events manager to help plan, manage and execute the Tribune’s year-round event portfolio.

Since our launch, the Tribune has hosted nearly 500 on-the-record, open-to-the-public live events — on college campuses, in community centers and everywhere in between — at which public officials, policy wonks and newsmakers answer for the work they’re doing and how they’re spending Texans’ tax dollars.

The Events Manager will work closely with the Director of Events & Programming and Assistant Director of Events to plan and execute the Tribune’s suite of events around the state, including conversations with legislators, panel discussions, social and co-sponsored events, day-long symposia and the annual Texas Tribune Festival, which attracts thousands of attendees to downtown Austin to learn about Texas’ biggest challenges and to engage in thoughtful discussions about their respective solutions.

We’re looking for a confident and detail-oriented events professional with experience planning and promoting events of varying sizes and managing projects at all stages — from conception and pre-event planning to on-site execution and post-event analysis.

Responsibilities will include:

Event production including venue planning and site visits
Managing speaker scheduling and communications relating to their appearance
Copywriting and editing of event-related materials, including promotional materials
Coordinating with the Tribune art team on the development and design of event promotional materials, programs, signage, etc.
Creating event promotional materials, including social media, and executing event outreach
Managing event RSVPs and contacts
Assisting with various aspects of Texas Tribune Festival production
Managing expenses to budget and submit invoices
Running post-event evaluation, including data entry and analysis, and producing reports for stakeholders
Anticipating needs and troubleshooting to ensure that all events run smoothly

An ideal candidate will have:

1-3 years of event production or event-related experience
Strong writing and communication skills with a good copy-editing eye
Ability to juggle and prioritize many projects simultaneously with an eye on the big picture
A detail-oriented approach with a commitment to getting the job done well and on-schedule
Strong discretion and courtesy when dealing with all Tribune contacts and relationships
The ability to remain cool under pressure and work well both independently and on teams
Facility with EventBrite, MailChimp and Salesforce
This position requires some travel around the state to assist with events, as well as occasional evening and weekend events.
