We’re looking for a News Producer to join the New Food Economy’s editorial team. The ideal candidate will love breaking new stories, obsess over analytics and engagement statistics, and relish the opportunity to implement strategy and structure as part of a small-but-mighty, fast-paced newsroom. You’re a creative thinker who’s willing to do whatever it takes to maximize each story’s reach, and yet you’re structured, meticulous, and organized enough to submit bomb-proof copy and measure campaign results over time. This is a huge opportunity for the right fit: You’ll help shape the public voice of a quickly growing magazine, help craft the visual presentation of our stories, and be a key strategic player who grows as we do.
Though not a reporting position per se, the news producer will be an important figure on the editorial team, and we’ll rely on your writing and editing skills all the time. We’re looking for someone with strong storytelling instincts who can craft an engaging narrative in 140 characters, 25 seconds of video, or a 500-word text post.
Help grow NFE’s public presence with smart, engaging, typographically flawless social media copy
Produce articles using our WordPress CMS
Intuitively understand which aspects of our stories will resonate with our readers across different platforms
Work with our audience dev team to relay feedback to editorial and implement strategy
Follow and engage with other major voices in the food media space
Write short posts and news pieces as needed
Must be an obsessive reader and news junkie
Ability to follow (and help shape) the social conversation at high-profile conferences and events
Nail New Food Economy’s voice every time
Identify opportunities for cross-promotion and collaborate with syndication partners
Make and distribute videos for social media
Make and distribute additional graphics for social media
1-2+ years of social media experience for a publication
1-2+ years experience with production in WordPress and Mailchimp, including basic HTML
Deep familiarity with writing and strategy for the major social networks, including paid promotions and back-end analytics
Photo, video, and audio production skills as major plus, including familiarity with Canva, Infogram, and Photoshop
Reporting and/or editorial experience a plus
Strong attention to detail and ability to uphold editorial standards across a range of platforms
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
A sense of humor and deep intellectual curiosity
Up-to-date knowledge of the media space in general and the food media space in particular
Interest and experience in the world of food a plus
