Build Your Board Part 2: Prospect, Recruit and Onboard

Join INN’s Sara Shahriari and board development expert Jeanne Allen for two interactive virtual meetings on the basics of how a board functions, board governance responsibilities and board development best practices for early-stage nonprofit organizations. Whether you are building your first board or moving your organization into a new phase, these sessions will help you step forward with greater confidence. And if you aren’t in a leadership role right now but you’re curious about how boards work, you are welcome too.
All INN members are welcome to attend at no cost, but please be aware that the session content is developed for member organizations that are less than 5 years old, have an annual budget under $1 million and fewer than 10 full-time staff members.
About session 2
Explore specific ideas for board engagement in recruiting and onboarding board members, as well as the board’s role in fundraising. Participants will examine specific strategies for building their board and identify two strategies for implementation.
About the speaker
Jeanne Allen is an expert in strategy, innovation and leadership in the nonprofit sector. Jeanne is a BoardSource Certified Governance Consultant, and an expert in board development, governance and nonprofit leadership development. Jeanne’s reputation is built on engaging teams in creative ways to build on their dreams and visions. Previously, Jeanne worked for more than 25 years in national, state and local nonprofits, as well as in higher education in a community college. Much of that time, her primary focus was capacity building focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. Additionally, Jeanne is an instructor in the Duke University Nonprofit Management Certificate Program.
