Join us for an info session on the legal and regulatory risks facing nonprofit news organizations. Attorneys will provide mitigation strategies to reduce the risk of exposure to legal action and government investigation.
Topics will include:
- tax management
- fundraising regulations
- the relationship between editorial decision-making and nonprofits’ 501(c)(3) status
- resources offered by the Reporters Committee, ProJourn and other organizations to assist nonprofits in navigating these issues
ProJourn has developed a series of Legal Checkup Clinics in response to concerns about legal risks facing nonprofit newsrooms in a changing political landscape. During these clinics, attorneys will assess news organizations’ legal health by reviewing a checklist developed with the support of Davis Wright Tremaine. This checklist includes a review of business models, governance, fundraising guidelines, media liability, intellectual property and privacy.
