News organizations based in Kentucky and the counties declared a State of Emergency in West Virginia can immediately apply for $10,000 in unrestricted funds to support their important work in the wake of this disaster, thanks to funding from the Google News Initiative (GNI). This is the second time that INN and GNI have partnered to support local newsrooms providing essential reporting during a declared, natural disaster. In January, INN and GNI offered fast-track grants to news organizations affected by the California wildfires. 

“We are pleased that our pilot disaster response project with GNI is continuing with this effort to support journalists who are bringing vital information to their communities as they rebuild from devastating flooding,” said Jonathan Kealing, INN’s chief network officer.

Support will be awarded only while available funds last. News organizations in Kentucky and West Virginia are invited to view the eligibility criteria and apply by March 7.
